Meet Joe

Personal Background

   + Born in Lufkin, Texas and a resident of Angelina County throughout his life. Since the Civil War, five generations of Registers have raised their families in Angelina County. He is one of a family of seven children and a graduate of Lufkin High School where he played Panther football and baseball. Was a member of the Lufkin Panther baseball team that captured the 1963 state championship.

   + Received his Bachelor of Science in Business and Economics from Stephen F. Austin State University. He worked nights at Lufkin Industries to pay for his education expenses and to support his family.

   + Worked full time while attended night classes at South Texas College of Law in Houston where he received his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1973. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1973.

   + Has had a very active law practice in Lufkin, Texas for 40 years and has served the citizens of Angelina County as their former County Attorney. He has represented many clients in cases involving criminal law, probate, civil suits, juvenile, family law, and is a certified mediator.

   + Board certified by the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Family Law since 1991. Has handled over 1500 clients in family law matters throughout East Texas. He has better prepared himself to assist his clients by attending over 1000 hours of continuing legal education courses of the Texas State Bar.

   + Member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialist for 24 years. He has served the State Bar of Texas as a text book committee member, writing books to assist family lawyers to better serve their clients. Member of the Texas Law Foundation.

   + 2010 President of the Angelina County Bar Association and has served on its scholarship committee.

   + Involved in youth sports in Lufkin and Angelina County for many years as a coach in Lufkin Youth Baseball, Hudson Little Dribblers, and Angelina County Youth Football. He had an active role in starting youth football in Angelina County in 1993, serving as an original director, coach and league president.

   + A Christian who is a member of Denman Avenue Baptist Church where he has attended with his family since 1974. He and his wife Robin live in the Hudson community.

   + He has four children: Melissa Kaemmerling, a daughter , who is married to Joseph Kaemmerling and teaches freshman English at Diboll High School; Lori Baker, a daughter , who is married to Chris Baker and teaches fifth grade in Henderson, Texas; Reagan Register, a son, who is married to Sara Malone Register and works for Spartan Energy, The Woodlands, Texas; and Joey Register, a son and who is a first year law student at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock and works for Texas Farm Bureau in Texarkana, Texas. He has seven beautiful grandchildren.
